About Us

Canberra Skeptics Incorporated is a non-profit association incorporated in the Australian Capital Territory for the purpose of promoting critical thinking. While it is a branch of the Australian Skeptics, the two organisations are independent. For more details about the Australian Skeptics, visit their website. More details of the objectives of Canberra Skeptics are listed here

Canberra Skeptics tends to steer clear of religion, i.e. we don't ordinarily debate issues relating to mainstream religion/s. In fact, while we generally support the pursuit of rationalist answers, we are not an atheist organisation. To quote from the Australian Skeptics pamphlet entitled "Do you believe everything you are told?" - "Nor are we an atheist group – we do not as an organisation oppose religious belief in all its forms. We are, however, critical of attempts, such as creationism, to misuse religion to explain natural phenomena and to undermine science."
If you are interested in atheism, we suggest you visit the Atheist Foundation of Australia Inc which is located at http://www.atheistfoundation.org.au/articles.
